8 - The bent blade of grass and the lost penny!
As I was learning of the reality of God, one of the questions that came to mind was how much does God control the world we live in and the events that occur in it. God responded to that question through a dream. Here is what he showed me.
In the dream, God took me out to a field of grass and showed me a bent blade of grass. He said to me, “Do you think that I reached out and bent this blade of grass?”. Then He said to me: “No, although I am aware of it, I did not directly reach out and bend this blade of grass.” He then took
me over to another spot and showed me a penny that was laying on the ground. He said to me: “Do you think that I reached out and caused this penny to fall out of someone’s pocket to lay on the ground here?” Then He said to me; “No, although I am aware of it, I did not directly reach out and cause this penny to fall out of someone’s pocket to lay on the ground here.” And the dream ended. For clarification, in this dream I heard a voice but did not see Him.
So what is the answer to my question: “How much does God control the world we live in and the events that occur in it?” The answer to that question requires a different question. The right question is how much does God directly control the world we live in and the events that occur in it. The “bent blade of grass” and the “lost penny” reflects that although God is aware of the things that occur in the world we live in and the events that occur in it, He does not directly control everything in the world we live in and the events that occur in it.
The answer, if you do not know it already, is that God maintains an oversight of the world we live in and the events that occur in it and that He has and does intervene and exercise direct control when he chooses to do so.
Many of the experiences described in this website will reveal that.
Notes
What do I make of the experience reflected in the dream of the bent blade of grass and the lost penny?
Since God took the time to show this to me, it demonstrates that it is important to realize that God is aware of but does not directly intervene to control all the events that occur in the world or, for that matter, in our lives. Whether that be the wind that bends a blade of grass, the formation of a hurricane, a person’s inadvertent actions leading to a lost penny, or for that matter, a choice made by an individual.
This is not to say that God never intervenes or never directly controls events, circumstances, and even people in the world we live in. To the contrary, the Bible as well as the experiences described on this webpage indicate that He intervenes and is in control much more than we realize. The problem is that we do not always recognize it when He intervenes because we are unable to see Him directly with our eyes, hear him with our ears, or touch Him with our hands.
But here is a truth: God chooses when he will directly intervene in our world and prayer opens the door for God’s intervention in your life. Psalm 91:15, below, talks about prayer opening the door for God’s intervention. Through some of the experiences described in this website, you will learn that sometimes God’s response to a prayer is immediate and sometimes you don’t see it until later. This is where an important choice comes in….in the absence of an immediate answer, will you choose to commit it into God’s hands and believe that he has heard your prayer or walk away from it.
