34 - God honors his precepts!

To demonstrate God's knowledge of our thoughts and prayers even before they occur

I was not long after returning to Vermont from the hospital in which Nathaniel was recovering, that I found myself driving home after dark from a trip to Rutland, Vermont.  It was another trip taken in relation to the litigation that was still underway with respect to the Citizens Utilities Company.

I was encountering doubts about whether Nathaniel’s recovery was permanent.  I was worried that since his recovery was considered to be only a remission; that his disease would return and take his life.  This would, should it happen, not only take Nathaniel from us but it would invalidate what was, in my mind, a precept of God that I had relied upon.

I was deeply troubled by these thoughts and, despite the fact that I was driving, cried out to God: “God, do you honor your precepts?”.  Now it so happened that at the same time I asked God whether He honored his precepts, I had just passed the same church with the sign that had so encouraged me to continue the fight with respect to the Citizens Utilities Company back in 1998 as described in the story “32 – The Holy Spirit says: “You can’t win the race if you don’t stay in the race!”  It was after I had passed the sign and while I was still considering my question that I had the thought: “since God responded to me once before on that sign, maybe I should turn around and go back to see what it might say this time.”  It was dark at the time I had passed the sign, which was unlit, and unreadable at the time I drove by it.

After thinking about it a bit, I decided to turn around and go back just to see if there might be something there; a decision that reflects the level of anxiety I was experiencing.  Upon arriving at the church, I had to turn into the driveway and place my headlights on the sign in order to read it.  On doing so, I was amazed to discover the words: “God honors his precepts!”; nothing else.  On seeing this, I was reminded that God was aware of my thoughts, was mindful and caring about my wellbeing, and was willing to intervene in my behalf to respond to my question.  It assured me of Nathaniel’s continued health and, in addition, pointed to the fact that we can relay upon God’s precepts.

Well the year 2000 was proving to be an eventful year.  It was also the year that my Dad died.  Prior to his death, and event occurred in his life that was associated with his death and that’s the subject of the story described in “35 – God, seeing my Dad’s grief, said: “Three more years!”.

Notes

What do I make of the experience with respect to the sign and the words upon them?

It is simply this: the precepts of God are important!  Why do I say that?

Because those who are aware of God’s reality and of His precepts walk a pathway;  a pathway of communication between ourselves and God.  It is through these precepts that God communicates something of his character, beliefs, and the rules by which he conducts himself.  It is also through these precepts that God communicates guidance and direction in terms of how we should conduct our lives.  And, it is through these precepts, that God provides an insight into what we may expect of Him.  Many of God’s promises and the hope that is extended to us through them are directly tied to his precepts.  For these reasons, a knowledge of God’s reality and His precepts are important.

Some of these precepts have been referred to in the experiences described within this website and are listed below.  There are more.
